Subnational Actors in a U.S. Low Emissions Scenario

The University of Maryland’s Center for Global Sustainability recently released a report detailing how non-federal and federal actors can work together to achieve 65% emission reductions from 2005 levels by 2035. The report assesses existing, new and expanded policies to identify the overall emissions reduction potential in 2035 and concrete implementation pathways to deliver on this potential. These findings are part of a larger effort to inform the anticipated update to the United States’ Paris Agreement plan.

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability USA (ICLEI USA) and America Is All In invite you to a presentation of this research and discussion of the report’s local policy pathways. The ICLEI USA and All In team will facilitate a robust discussion of the challenges and opportunities inherent in transitioning to a clean energy economy and the role that local governments can play in driving economy-wide emissions reductions between now and 2035. The goal of this process is to ensure that subnational entities and institutional actors have a meaningful say in shaping our national targets. We believe that drawing on the experience and expertise of local leaders and practitioners will be crucial in establishing ambitious yet attainable targets.
