Sustainability plans that include increasing energy efficiency and developing renewable energy sources lower energy costs, build energy security, and create healthier communities. From strategy to implementation to maintenance, ICLEI helps local governments to scale up smarter and cleaner energy.
Our Programs, Resources, & Tools
Designed to dramatically increase deployment of solar and other renewable energy sources, ICLEI offers programs, resources, tools, and knowhow that promotes energy security, advocates for environmental equity, protects environmental quality, and enhances livelihoods of communities by making housing more affordable and reducing emissions of pollutants that degrade air and water resources and contribute to climate change.
Solar Outreach Partnership
Helps local governments identify and remove barriers to local solar energy developments including permitting, interconnection and net metering, financing, planning, zoning, community solar, and outreach
Solar Marketplace
An online marketplace of solar power systems that offers municipalities the opportunity to compare solar options, access educational resources, create custom programs, and track their success
Ecomobility
The EcoMobility programs aids communities in developing locally-specific approaches that promote the integrated use of socially inclusive and environmentally friendly transportation options, including walking, cycling, wheeling, and passenging.
High Performance Building
ICLEI’s High Performance Building program provides local governments with policy recommendations and proven methodologies to speed a transition to an inclusive, healthy, low-carbon city through building energy and water efficiency and making critical connections between the built environment and public health.
Our Network
ICLEI helps Members exchange experience of and expertise in efficient and renewable energy through the Solar Outreach Partnership workshops our partner networks, and through initiatives such as the Solutions Gateway where local governments can find possible low emissions solutions for their city.
Our Commitments
The Compact of Mayors is the world’s largest coalition of city leaders addressing climate change by pledging to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, tracking their progress and preparing for the impacts of climate change. Additionally, within the US, Resilient Communities for America (RC4A) signatories commit to creating more prepared communities that can bounce back from extreme weather, energy, and economic challenges, and foster city-to-city cooperation.
