Topsham, ME Community GHGI

Status

Start: February 2024
End: May 2024
Client or funder: Town of Topsham, Maine

Context

Topsham, Maine, had not previously developed a greenhouse gas inventory (GHGI) to guide its climate action efforts. To establish a foundation for effective climate planning, the town partnered with ICLEI USA to quantify emissions, set science-based targets (SBTs), and identify high-impact actions.

Project Activity

ICLEI USA created a community-wide GHGI, calculated SBTs for 2030 using the One Planet City Challenge (OPCC) methodology, forecasted emissions from 2021 to 2030, and modeled three high-impact action (HIA) calculators. ClearPath software was used to complete the inventory, forecasting, and modeling process.

Outcomes

With these data-driven insights, Topsham gained a clearer understanding of its emissions profile and reduction pathways. The town can now use these deliverables to guide future climate actions, set achievable goals, and implement strategies to reduce emissions effectively.
