ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, USA (ICLEI USA) hosted a delegation of environmental protection and municipal government officials from China’s Ministry of Environmental Protection, Jiangsu Provincial Environmental Protection Department, and environmental protection officials from Nanjing, Wuxi, Changzhou, and Suzhou as part of its ongoing activities under the California-China Urban Climate Collaborative (CCUCC). The CCUCC fosters long-term collaboration amongst Californian and Chinese cities to join together to be more effective and powerful—in combating carbon emissions and air pollution.

LA County & UCLA Launch Free Energy Atlas
The Energy Atlas illuminates the many differences in how people, buildings, and neighborhoods use energy, showing that a one-size-fits-all policy on enEnergy Atlas Snapshotergy reduction would not be equitable or cost effective, the researchers said. Local governments’ enforcement power over building codes and permits means they shoulder much of the responsibility of California’s greenhouse-gas reduction goals. The atlas gives local governments reliable data to establish baselines and evaluate the effectiveness of programs.
Sustainable Water Planning Wins in Urbana, IL
Urbana’s Sustainable Water Management Plan includes ambitious, but achievable Goals for water conservation within City-owned buildings, region-wide coordination, consideration of conservation rules for new private developments, and public engagement in conservation activities addressing businesses and residents. All Actions in the Plan are intended to be completed between the date of adoption in 2013 and January 1, 2020 with the exception of certain Actions that shall be ongoing.

ClearPath Opens to All US Cities for Free
In support of cities meeting their Compact of Mayors’ commitments to local climate action and thanks to a grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies, starting today the community-scale Inventory Module of ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability’s ClearPath is open to any US city, county, or regional government for free.
President Challenges Cities to Join Compact & Set Precedent for Climate Action by COP21
In a fact sheet released today by the White House, President Obama challenged all Mayors to publicly commit to a climate action plan ahead of the Paris UN meeting, and has set a goal of having at least 100 US cities that have signed onto the Compact of Mayors by the end of November.
