City of Grand Rapids Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment

Context

To strengthen its Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP), Grand Rapids partnered with ICLEI USA to conduct a Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment (CRVA). This assessment identified the city’s climate risks and their impacts on people, infrastructure, services, and natural resources. The CRVA helped the city develop resilience strategies that address critical risks while advancing equity.

Project Activity

ICLEI USA conducted the CRVA in collaboration with the City of Grand Rapids, analyzing current and future climate impacts. The project included engagement with the Community Collaboration on Climate Change (C4), a local community-based organization, to conduct focus groups and gather insights from residents.

Outcomes

The CRVA provided Grand Rapids with a data-driven foundation for integrating climate resilience into its CAAP. The findings will guide the city in setting resilience goals, prioritizing adaptation strategies, and ensuring equitable outcomes for vulnerable communities.
