ICLEI USA partners with the Heinrich Böll Foundation to present a case study on just transitions for coal communities. Over decades, coal mining and burning has played an important role for energy production in Germany and the US. The economy of many regions was dominated by coal for a long time. But with coal being less and less competitive, declining jobs and the coal sector being one of the biggest polluters, these communities in both countries now experience big changes and challenges.
