End: July 2024
Client or funder: Ulster County

Context

Ulster County, NY, sought to develop a data-driven climate action plan by assessing its community-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. To support local climate planning, the County also aimed to equip its 21 municipalities with individual GHG inventories and reporting tools.

Project Activity

ICLEI USA conducted a 2022 community-wide GHG inventory for Ulster County, along with inventories for each of its 21 municipalities, following the U.S. Community Protocol. The project also included the development of science-based targets, a greenhouse gas inventory (GHGI) memo template for municipal adaptation, and a presentation slide deck summarizing key findings.

Outcomes

Ulster County and its municipalities now have a standardized and data-driven foundation for climate action planning. These inventories and resources will help local governments set emissions reduction targets, prioritize mitigation strategies, and integrate climate data into policy and planning efforts.
