Session 3: Shaping the Local and Subnational Governments Agenda for COP17

ICLEI Cities Biodiversity Center is launching a new webinar series to support local and subnational governments in engaging with the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) ahead of the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17).

Building on momentum from recent global convenings, this series focuses on how CBD processes work, how negotiations unfold, and how local governments can participate effectively. Each session provides practical guidance to help turn global biodiversity goals into local action.

This session focuses on how cities and regions shape their collective voice and priorities at Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Conferences of the Parties (COPs), including through the Summit for Subnational Governments and Cities.

Participants will learn about the role of this official parallel event and its long-standing contribution to CBD processes. The session will also provide practical information about the 9th Summit and create space to help shape a shared position for local and subnational governments ahead of COP17.
