Methane Research Workshop
ICLEI USA is hosting a workshop with researchers who are using satellite measurements to better understand methane emissions across urban areas in the United States. This work looks at how methane levels vary between regions and explores the factors that may be driving those differences.
The research focuses on emissions from natural gas distribution systems, building use, wastewater treatment facilities, and landfills. The goal is to improve how methane emissions are estimated, helping local governments better understand key sources of emissions and where action can have the greatest impact.
This session is designed as a working conversation. Participants will hear directly from researchers about their approach and emerging insights, and will have the opportunity to share input that can help shape the ongoing research design and hypotheses.
Speaker:
Genevieve Plant, Assistant Research Scientist
University of Michigan, College of Engineering, Climate and Space Sciences and Engineering
Please note:
This workshop is open to ICLEI USA members only.
Date: May 14, 2026
Time: 3:00 PM ET
