Sterling Heights, MI 2022 Community-Wide + Local Government Operation & Greenhouse Gas Inventory

Status

Start: September 2023
End: June 2024
Client or funder: Sterling Heights, MI

Context

Sterling Heights, MI, established the Sterling Heights Sustainability Commission in 2020 to guide the city’s sustainability goals. However, the city lacked a community-wide (CW) or local government operations (LGO) emissions inventory, both of which are essential for effective climate action planning.

Project Activity

The City contracted ICLEI USA to develop both a 2022 CW and LGO greenhouse gas inventory using ICLEI’s ClearPath software. ICLEI collaborated with Sterling Heights to gather necessary data from local providers, including emissions from contracted mowing services, which were incorporated into the LGO inventory.

Outcomes

Sterling Heights now has completed 2022 CW and LGO greenhouse gas inventories, along with a standard narrative report and slide deck summarizing the findings. These inventories will inform future mitigation strategies and sustainability initiatives.
