Kale Roberts

Kale joined the ICLEI USA team in 2016 to provide technical assistance to ICLEI members on greenhouse gas emission inventories, sustainability and climate action planning, and to develop climate vulnerability assessments. Since 2018, he has worked as network coordinator and communications lead while serving as a U.S. local government liaison to the United Nations.

Before joining ICLEI USA, Kale worked with the United Nations Development Programme’s Climate Change Adaptation Team from the Bangkok Regional Hub. He supported countries throughout the Asia-Pacific region to develop proposals aimed at unlocking climate finance for adaptation projects. Kale also is a former editor of Mother Earth News, North America’s largest sustainable living magazine, where he coordinated climate and energy content. From 2010 to 2012, he served as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in rural Thailand, where he worked on a project with the Thai Ministry of Energy to build home-scale biogas digesters and initiate carbon accounting in community forests. Kale received an M.S. in Climate Science and Policy from the Bard Center for Environmental Policy and a B.S. in Environmental Science from Humboldt State University.
