The New York Proposal for Inclusive Growth in Cities

The Ford Foundation New York, NY March 29, 2016: ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability joined The Ford Foundation and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in the launch of the Inclusive Growth in Cities Campaign.

Analyzing economic data collected following the global financial downturn of 2008-2009, the OECD recognized a new emerging economic model – one that is more inclusive of all people. With this reckoning, the staff encouraged the OECD member countries to look beyond GDP as a measurement of economic health to one of inclusive growth.

On the heels of COP21 and seizing the momentum of city action, OECD and the Ford Foundation teamed to highlight the actions of Champion Mayors and disseminate these best practices through the creation of the Inclusive Growth in Cities Campaign.

Led by Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, OECD invited participation from Mayors from around the globe. 45 mayors committed to The New York Proposal for Inclusive Growth in Cities – to inclusive education systems, labor markets, housing and urban environments, infrastructure and public services.  All of which have direct linkages to climate change and opportunities to create Inclusive – Sustainable Growth.
