The State of California has released the Fourth Climate Change Assessment, which provides the scientific foundation for understanding climate-related vulnerability at the local scale and informing resilience actions. The Fourth Assessment addresses critical information gaps that decision-makers at the state, regional, and local levels need addressed in order to protect California’s people, infrastructure, natural systems, working lands, and waters.

Join leading researchers, scientists, key state agencies, local jurisdictions, and community leaders for the San Joaquin Valley Regional Climate Symposium to learn about key findings from California’s Fourth Climate Change Assessment and opportunities to advance local initiatives!

This workshop will highlight new findings on key climate risks impacting the San Joaquin Valley region with a special emphasis on agriculture, water, wildfires and air quality, and energy systems.

This workshop is open to the public. We strongly encourage public agency staff (cities, counties, regional agencies, special districts, etc.), non-profit organizations, community-based organizations, private consulting firms, advocacy groups, students, and individuals interested in learning about the latest climate science to attend this engaging and informative event.

Workshop organizers are actively working to pull together a robust agenda to make this workshop as valuable to participants as possible. The final agenda will be circulated with registered participants prior to the workshop. The current draft agenda includes presentations and panel discussions on the following topics:

  • Overview of California’s Fourth Climate Change Assessment
  • Sector-specific climate risks and opportunities in the region:
    • Agriculture
    • Water
    • Wildfires and Air Quality
    • Energy Systems
  • Updates and opportunities to accelerate resiliency efforts throughout the region
