This event is a key milestone in driving stronger collective local action.
Sustainability in Montréal
The City of Montréal is committed to sustainable development. Through its efforts, the city aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent by 2050, ensure equitable access to its services and facilities and encourage exemplary innovation and creativity in sustainable development policy and practice. The plan is as ambitious as it is inclusive.
Since 2005, the city has focused on joint action between the community and the municipal administration, both of which have taken on a fair share of actions to build a more sustainable Montréal. For its part, the city plans to create 1,000 kilometers of bike lanes by 2020 and invest $10.5 million to improve service access, while encouraging local organizations to divest from fossil fuels and plan zero waste events.
As host of the ICLEI World Congress 2018, Montréal will show how it is leading the way towards a more sustainable urban future, bringing hundreds of local leaders together to build momentum on local sustainable action worldwide.
