The SEEC Forum heads to Fresno in June!

The Local Government Commission, in partnership with the Statewide Energy Efficiency Collaborative, is hosting the 8th Annual Statewide Energy Efficiency Forum in Fresno from June 14th to June 15th, with pre-forum activities taking place June 13th. This forum is offered at no-cost to California local governments and features updates from key state agencies, highlights innovative local energy and sustainability projects, offers capacity-building trainings, and provides multiple networking opportunities. We hope that you can join us!

2017 Theme: Bridging the Gap

This year’s forum will focus on Bridging the Gap. Organizers will aim to feature topics that highlight approaches and strategies that catalyze local energy and sustainability action to close gaps in planning to implementation, data and technology, policy to practice, urban and rural, and more! For the first time, we are opening a call for session proposals to encourage participants to share innovative strategies and lessons learned that demonstrate how their agency is working to close gaps to save energy and achieve local sustainability goals.

Forum Features

In addition to a robust two-day program, this year’s forum will also feature:

  • Two pre-forum workshops on June 13th
    • 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM – Energy Efficiency 101, hosted by SEEC
This workshop aims to provide key background information to help new energy practitioners get the most out of the forum. Participants will learn about State goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and key funding opportunities (e.g. the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund/cap-and-trade program); important regulatory proceedings and how local governments can get involved; State goals and best practices for zero net energy and electric vehicles, additional common best practices for municipal retrofits, business and community outreach, and more; how to get started in ClearPath to complete greenhouse gas inventories, forecasts, and climate action plans; and resources available to local governments as they relate to energy efficiency.
    • 1:00 – 5:00 PM – Zero Net Energy for Local Governments, hosted by New Buildings Institute
This workshop is designed to give local government staff the information, tools, and confidence to create and drive progress toward zero net energy goals. Case studies show how cities can be leaders within their own public building portfolios by creating a clear code and policy roadmap, and by transforming the market through public awareness. We will review how to achieve climate goals through ZNE pilot projects, deep energy retrofits starting with municipal building benchmarking and portfolio analysis, ZNE codes, financial incentives, ZNE recognition, and other tactics. In addition to sharing examples of successful plans and ZNE-ready policies, small working groups will develop their own ideas utilizing training materials.
  • A networking reception with poster displays
  • A tour and documentary screening at BitWise (pending)
  • Beer night at Tioga-Sequoia Craft Brewing Co. (pending)
  • Morning runs led by Fleet Feet Fresno
