ICLEI USA Welcomes New Board Members for 2018

Members of ICLEI USA Board of Directors join the ICLEI delegation to COP21 in Paris

We are delighted to welcome to our Board of Directors as of January 1, 2018: Mayor William Peduto, City of Pittsburgh; Mr. David Driskell, Deputy Director, Planning and Community Development for the City of Seattle; and Mr. Dan Stiles, Founder of Stiles.Legal and Outside General Counsel & Senior Strategic Adviser for former U.S. Vice President Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project.

Mayor Peduto is internationally recognized for his leadership of Pittsburgh’s inclusive transition from traditional heavy industries to advanced technologies and innovations in the mobility and building sectors. The City of Pittsburgh is a longtime member of the ICLEI network, having rapidly completed all Five Milestones of Emissions Management a decade ago. Pittsburgh continues to serve as a role model for U.S. and international cities, such as through the release of its Resilience Strategy last year.

David Driskell is well known for his decade of experience as a pioneer in sustainable urban development in the U.S. David led City of Boulder, CO’s housing, planning, and sustainability accomplishments from 2009 to 2016 — helping to place Boulder as a globally-recognized climate leader. He brings these skills as well as his development work in Portland and Seattle to the ICLEI Board as a leading practitioner in the field.

Dan Stiles brings his political and advocacy experience to the ICLEI USA Board, in addition to his legal skills. Dan served as COO, Outside General Counsel, and interim CEO for the Climate Reality Project. Founded in 2006 by Nobel Laureate and former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, the Climate Reality Project is a unique nonprofit, non-partisan organization committed to educating the global community about the urgency of implementing comprehensive solutions to the climate crisis.

The three new Directors join our current Directors: Former Mayor and Council Member Matthew Appelbaum, City of Boulder; Mayor Frank Cownie, City of Des Moines; Clerk of Courts the Honorable Harvey Ruvin, Miami-Dade County; Council Member Pam O’Connor, City of Santa Monica; and Commissioner Brigid Shea, Travis County, Texas. All Directors will serve a two-year term.
